Before I start my review of Sierra's NASCAR 2, I want to emphasize an important point: NASCAR 2 is a thrilling experience rather than a mere toy. While I considered myself skilled at your average PC racing game, NASCAR strikes a wonderful balance between exhilarating action and strategic gameplay. In this game, each track is unique and requires thoughtful adjustments to your car's design. Additionally, players must be attentive to pit stop timing and competitor positions on the track. After spending several hours racing around the oval and listening to my spotter through headphones, it became clear that NASCAR 2 delivers an impressively realistic experience.
To start, the graphics in NASCAR 2 are exceptional. Sierra has enhanced the frame rate compared to the previous game, resulting in smooth car animations and realistic body dynamics. This game offers a fantastic way to feel like you're part of an actual televised race. As an added feature, Sierra includes a paintshop-style program, allowing you to personalize any car on the track. Whether you want to add your dog's name to the hood or a fun design to the bumper, NASCAR 2 lets you express your creativity; the car becomes your artistic canvas.
Moreover, part of the enjoyment of NASCAR 2 lies in fine-tuning your vehicle's tire pressure, spoiler height, camber, and gear ratios for optimal performance on various tracks. Experienced racers—whether seasoned professionals or desktop racing veterans—will recognize these terms from the get-go. However, for those new to NASCAR, an easy-to-understand diagram explaining how each car element influences performance can be incredibly helpful. Before long, I found myself experimenting and mastering the adjustments needed to transform my V-8 into a top contender.
The AI in the game is remarkable. When you come close to another vehicle, they realistically respond by slowing down or maneuvering to avoid a collision. While NASCAR 2 may not present the same level of damaging encounters as other racing games, it certainly competes in terms of realism. If you happen to collide with another car, your spotter is there to provide insightful feedback on your performance. This adds an engaging layer of immersion, as you'll likely feel completely absorbed in the race.
NASCAR 2 truly exemplifies professional execution and a deep commitment to the NASCAR tradition. Sierra and NASCAR have even collaborated to bring the game to the TEN (Total Entertainment Network) platform, allowing players to compete for "official" NASCAR standings online—how exciting is that? Fans of the original NASCAR will naturally want to add this title to their collection. I'm sharing this review especially for gamers who might feel daunted by realistic simulations. Stated within the auction is what platform the game will work on (ie. Windows, Mac, Linux...) This is a generic statement and specific platform versions (ie. XP, Vista...) will have to be researched by the buyer. Games that came out PRIOR to XP or higher will not specifically state they will work on that release, but only because they came out before those versions were made. Many, if not most, will work on XP or higher with a few quick adjustments. We provide instructions with all items purchased on how to do this adjustment using the Program Compatibility Wizard. If we find out that an item will definately not work on a specific version, we will state it. For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program if the Program Compatibility Wizard does not work.
64-Bit Windows OS Systems:
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older games most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most games prior to 2000). For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program.
Macintosh Systems:
For Macintosh programs, most older games will need to be run in Classic Environment if you have a MAC OS X 10.0 - 10.4 version. Please research Google on how to do this, or send us a message for information prior to purchasing. If your MAC OS system doesn't support Classic Environment (ie. MAC OS X 10.5 or Higher OR Intel Macs), you will have to try running it using the free program called SheepShaver, but compatibility is not ensured. Please research prior to purchasing or ask questions.
