JEAN SHEPHERD Ticket to Ride Radio Again is pleased to present 4 classic radio performances by raconteur Jean Shepherd from the archives of Hartwest Productions. In October 1964, as the "British Invasion" of pop music came into its own, Playboy Magazine as-signed Jean Shepherd to travel with and interview the Beatles on their tour of the United Kingdom. Leaving the tour, Shepherd took advantage of the assignment to further travel the UK on his own, exploring from Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands to London with a portable tape recorder to memorialize his observations for use on his own syndicated radio program.
The result is a fascinating audio documentary of the UK at a distinct point in time, with Shepherd offering commentary and musings uniquely his own on the popular culture and mores of the day. Included with these never-before-released digitally remastered and restored recordings is a Program Guide by Eugene B. Bergmann, author of Excelsior, You Fathead! The Art and Enigma of Jean Shepherd.
CD 1 Secret Mission Edinburgh CD 2 Highlands "Niff, CD 3 Back in London CD 4 London Wrap Up Humorist Jean Shepherd (1921-1999), creator/narrator of the holiday movie favorite A Christmas Story, and author of numerous other works of fiction and television, had a long and stellar career on radio and was heard most days during the period of 1955-1977 on WOR radio in New York, a clear-channel station heard along the Eastern seaboard and points west. Shepherd's radio work was both unique and transitional in the development of today's talk radio. Shepherd could talk, and talk he did, touching his listeners intimately as if speaking to an audience of one. Shepherd was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2005. The radio programs in this collection, long lost and forgotten, were created in the mid 1960's by Shepherd for radio and television syndicator Hartwest Productions in the format heard on Shepherd's WOR shows of the day, right down to his familiar Rahn Frei theme music. 4 Audio CDs - Digitally Remastered and Restored Each program is approximately 44 minutes. Stated within the auction is what platform the game will work on (ie. Windows, Mac, Linux...) This is a generic statement and specific platform versions (ie. XP, Vista...) will have to be researched by the buyer. Games that came out PRIOR to XP or higher will not specifically state they will work on that release, but only because they came out before those versions were made. Many, if not most, will work on XP or higher with a few quick adjustments. We provide instructions with all items purchased on how to do this adjustment using the Program Compatibility Wizard. If we find out that an item will definately not work on a specific version, we will state it. For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program if the Program Compatibility Wizard does not work.
64-Bit Windows OS Systems:
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older games most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most games prior to 2000). For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program.
Macintosh Systems:
For Macintosh programs, most older games will need to be run in Classic Environment if you have a MAC OS X 10.0 - 10.4 version. Please research Google on how to do this, or send us a message for information prior to purchasing. If your MAC OS system doesn't support Classic Environment (ie. MAC OS X 10.5 or Higher OR Intel Macs), you will have to try running it using the free program called SheepShaver, but compatibility is not ensured. Please research prior to purchasing or ask questions.
